Our Mission
Our mission is to provide medical, educational, nutritional, and social assistance to disabled children of Cameroon. Child disability is very high in Cameroon, as well as throughout Africa, but greatly ignored by most governments. One out of every four kids, or twenty-five percent (25%) in Africa is born with some type of disability.
In Cameroon, one out of every nine kids, or eleven percent(11%), is born with some type of disability. For Cameroon, that would amount to approximately 2 million(2,000,000) of the nearly 19.2 million people in Cameroon. These numbers are even higher in areas with less childhood education and no disability awareness.
Sadly, kids born with disability are largely ignored and kept out of society. Only ten percent (10%) of the disabled children in Cameroon will be lucky enough to have any type of formal education or treatment for their disability. It is a very serious situation and the Casey Association is working hard to change that by trying to raise awareness of these issues and to help provide medical, educational, nutritional, and social assistance.
Some examples of how we are attempting to accomplish these goals include:
Health: We provide these children with medicines, walking aids, incontinence materials such as diapers, mobility aids such as wheelchairs and tricycles, as well as beds, housing, and other useful items and services.
Education: Trained volunteers will help educate the community about children with disabilities. We provide these children with writing materials and teach them how to read, write and also interact with other children.
Nutrition: Our volunteers help with meal planning and other nutritional-related issues.
Social: The children are taking out on a field trip once a month to meet other kids without disabilities. .
